About Police Records
The Hanover Park County Sheriff Records Division maintains official records of reported crimes, arrests, and related law enforcement activity. Members of the public may request records through the Records Division, where staff will review each request to ensure that information is released in compliance with Illinois law and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
Records staff are responsible for processing and distributing incoming reports, maintaining records management systems, and providing a variety of public services at the front counter. The Records Division offers the following services:
- Clearance letters / background checks – $20
- Correctable citation sign-offs (Hanover Park-issued citations: no charge; other agencies: $25)
- Copies of police reports – subject to FOIA request and applicable fees
- Digital photographs / media copies – fee varies depending on format and request
- Fingerprinting (Livescan) – $15 per card; $25 for Livescan submissions (appointment required)
- Vehicle release (impound/repossessed) – fee as established by Illinois Vehicle Code
- Child safety seat inspection and installation – free for Hanover Park residents (non-residents: $50)
Obtaining a Police Report
Common reasons a report cannot be released:
- Case is still under investigation
- Case is part of a pending criminal or civil court proceeding
- Safety and confidentiality of victims and/or witnesses would be compromised
- Report involves a juvenile and is protected under Illinois Juvenile Court Act provisions
