Crime Prevention
Program Overview
The Hanover Park County Sheriff Crime Prevention Unit offers both Business Crime Prevention and Residential Crime Prevention presentations. These sessions are conducted by a Crime Prevention Specialist and are designed to provide practical strategies that reduce the risk of crime. Presentations are free of charge and available to business owners, employees, residents, and community groups.
Business Crime Prevention
The Business Crime Prevention program highlights key steps business owners and staff can take to protect property, employees, and customers. Topics include:
- Business Alert Network - Learn how local businesses can share information, support one another, and reduce opportunities for crime through coordinated communication.
- Commercial Security Survey - A specialist will visit your business to review locks, lighting, cameras, mirrors, and landscaping, providing recommendations to strengthen security.
- Robbery Prevention & Response - Understand what makes businesses vulnerable to robbery, how to react safely during an incident, and how to preserve evidence afterward.
- Fraud Awareness - Tips on detecting check fraud, credit card abuse, and other financial crimes before losses occur.
- Counterfeit Detection - Learn how to recognize the signs of counterfeit bills and reduce the risk of financial loss.
- Shoplifting Prevention - Training for staff on identifying suspicious behavior and effectively preventing theft.
Residential Crime Prevention
The Residential Crime Prevention program provides residents with tools to protect their homes and neighborhoods. Topics include:- Vehicle Theft Prevention - Why, where, and when auto theft occurs, along with simple measures to reduce risk.
- Elder Abuse Awareness - How to recognize signs of neglect or abuse and report concerns effectively.
- Community Policing Partnership - How deputies work with neighborhoods to respond more effectively to calls and concerns.
- Fraud & Scam Protection - Current trends in scams and how residents can safeguard themselves and their families.
- Emergency Preparedness - In partnership with local fire and emergency services, learn how to prepare for natural disasters and community-wide emergencies.
- Graffiti Awareness - What graffiti can signify, how to report it, and steps to keep neighborhoods clean and safe.
- Neighborhood Watch - An overview of the program and the benefits of neighbors working together to reduce crime.
- Operation Identification - The importance of marking valuable property for identification and recovery in the event of theft.
- Home Security Survey - A specialist will evaluate your residence and provide personalized recommendations for stronger protection.
